Chapter 3: Design Elements

I found this chapter to be very interesting as it discusses the importance of the look and feel in which you give to your typography in any given design. The first notable point made throughout the chapter relates to the idea of spacing in your typography. I think that this is very true, and if not carefully crafted, can make a design look very bad. Spacing is crucial because if the letters are too close together, then it will look uneven and smushed. If they are too far apart, it will look confusing for the reader. Sizing of your type is also very crucial in design as it makes or breaks the message you are trying to send. Big type portrays a sense of largeness and importance, while small type assumes the message to be of less importance. A goal of mine throughout this semester is to familiarize myself with a multitude of fonts and style names. I want to be able to use these fonts at my command and justify why one font would work better than another one.
