For my midterm project, I decided to go with the theme of pollution and the risks that it has for human beings and animals. After doing extensive research on the topic, I came to understand the serious and dangerous effects that it has on our entire planet. Dating back to millions of years ago, we see the first evidence of pollution from the creation of fire. In my first poster, I list some of the major turning points in history that has led to an increase in overall pollution across the globe.
I found the concept of pollution throughout time to be very interesting. Most people don't take the time to understand when pollution really began and how it grew exponentially more dangerous to our atmosphere and planet over centuries. I wanted to send the message that pollution existed long before our time and that we must continue this timeline in respect for the environment and planet. What are the next steps that we will be taking to make for a better future? What will the next image be? Solar panels?
I decided to approach the design in a hand-made effort. I wanted to practice my Illustrator skills, so I outlined some images online. I think that the hand-drawn images gives more of a youthful effect upon the viewer, letting them know that the future generations are worried about this issue.
The next design I created was a darker and more serious representation of pollution and it's effects. It is of a girl breathing in air, however instead of the air being fresh like she intended it to be, it is polluted with the product of large factories and machines. I used the black background as a way to represent how this is terrible for our environment and for human beings. I started out with a sketch and then created the design on illustrator.
Finally, I wanted to illustrate the effects of trash pollution on our oceans and sea animals. I drew a turtle being caught by a piece of trash to emphasize the harsh conditions in which these animals are living in.
