Reading: The Perfection of a Paper Clip

I really enjoyed reading this article, because the paper clip is an object that we commonly take for granted. However, it's assets are very useful across many industries and platforms. This sentence from the article sums it up pretty nicely: "It is made for secretaries, for assistants, for subordinates and gofers. It only became most useful once there were millions of pieces of paper that had to be grouped, but that also had to be taken apart again."

The idea of the paper clip being one of the few pieces of technology that has not been altered or transformed by people for easier usage, while almost everything else has (like phones, machines, buses, etc), is very questionable. How come this specific piece of technology persevered throughout the last century, while everything else was altered? This is a clear example of such a simple design, like the paper clip, will continue to be used by a mass amount of people, and never needs to be change.
